High-Sensitivity Fiber Optic Spectrometers BIM-6704
BIM-6704Design Tools
Overview
The BIM-6704 is a high-sensitivity, fiber-coupled spectrometer built on a Hamamatsu back-illuminated area-array CCD (2048 x 64 pixels, 14 μm), delivering exceptional weak-signal performance across a 200-1100 nm detector response range (peak sensitivity 200-500 nm, ultraviolet (UV)-optimized). With a signal-to-noise ratio of 800:1 and a dynamic range up to 50000:1, it is ideally suited to weak ultraviolet spectral measurements. It couples to light sources through a standard SMA905 fiber connector, and a single USB 2.0 connection provides both data transfer and power, with RS232 also supported.
Applications
- Raman and fluorescence spectroscopy
- Weak near-infrared (NIR) and ultraviolet (UV) spectral detection
- Weak-signal transmittance, absorbance and reflectance measurement
- Emission and absorption spectroscopy
- LED and light-source characterization
Construction & Performance
The spectrometer uses a crossed asymmetric Czerny-Turner optical path with an interference filter that suppresses second-order diffraction, paired with a back-illuminated area-array CCD for high quantum efficiency and low-light detection. It provides a signal-to-noise ratio of 800:1, a dynamic range of 50000:1, 16-bit A/D conversion and integration times from 1 ms to 10 s. Multiple trigger modes (normal, software, hardware and synchronization) and an SDK for secondary development support flexible OEM integration, while communication is handled over USB 2.0 and RS232.
Storage & Handling
Operate and store between 5 and 35 °C (25 °C recommended) in a dry, dust-free environment. Keep the SMA905 fiber connector and entrance slit clean and capped when not in use, and avoid mechanical shock to preserve the factory wavelength calibration.
