The Spiral Phase Plate VP2-1064 converts a conventional Gaussian input beam into a vortex beam at 1064 nm. A continuous azimuthal thickness gradient — a spiral staircase relief formed on the fused silica surface — imposes a helical phase front of topological charge m = 2. The transmitted field therefore carries orbital angular momentum, and destructive interference on the optical axis produces the characteristic annular intensity profile with a central dark core.
Applications
- Optical tweezers and particle manipulation
- High-resolution microscopy
- Optical information processing
- Surface topography measurement
Construction & Performance
- Substrate: JGS1 UV Fused Silica, offering lower absorption than liquid-crystal polymer alternatives and remaining well suited to ultraviolet operation
- Surface-relief spiral staircase structure, topological charge m = 2
- Operating wavelength: 1064 nm
- Clear aperture: 9x9 mm; component size 10x10 mm, installed in a Ø25.4x3.5 mm mechanical housing
- Surface quality (scratch/dig): 60/40
- Transmittance at the working wavelength: >92%; conversion efficiency: >95%
Storage & Handling
The housing is engraved with the model number. Unless otherwise specified, the engraved face is recommended as the beam incident surface so that orientation can be confirmed during alignment. Handle the component by the housing edge only and avoid any contact with the relief surface. Store in a clean, dry environment free of dust and abrasive particles, and clean only with optical-grade solvents and lens tissue when necessary.
