Compared to ordinary spherical lenses, molded aspheric lenses do not introduce spherical aberration into the transmitted wavefront when focusing or collimating a beam. LBTEK uses D-ZK3, D-ZLAF52LA, and D-LAK6 glass to manufacture molded aspheric lenses in various sizes. These three materials have a higher refractive index than B270 glass, and the molded aspheric lenses made from them offer a larger numerical aperture (NA) and a lower f-number (f/#). To ensure optimal performance, when used for collimating a point light source, the beam should be incident on the flatter side of the lens; when used for focusing a collimated beam, the beam should be incident on the side with greater curvature. Compared to precision-polished aspheric lenses, molded aspheric lenses offer advantages such as better production consistency and suitability for mass production. LBTEK provides molded aspheric lenses with a 600–1050 nm anti-reflection coating, available in both unmounted and mounted options.
