Free-Space Phase Modulator (Broadband, 20 MHz)

This LBTEK free-space electro-optic phase modulator (EOM) modulates the optical phase of a laser beam via the linear electro-optic (Pockels) effect in a lithium niobate crystal. Suitable for laser frequency stabilization (Pound-Drever-Hall), sideband generation, and laser linewidth measurement.

Available in 461 nm UV / VIS / NIR bands. Modulation bandwidth covers DC to 20 MHz, ideal for narrow-linewidth laser locking applications in atomic, molecular, and quantum optical experiments.

Key Features

  • Lithium niobate (LiNbO₃) crystal — high electro-optic coefficient r₃₃
  • Up to 20 MHz modulation bandwidth — covers PDH locking sideband frequencies
  • Low half-wave voltage (Vπ) — drivable by standard signal generators
  • Anti-reflection coated for the operating wavelength
  • Custom wavelength and bandwidth options available — contact engineering

Typical Applications

  • Pound-Drever-Hall (PDH) laser frequency stabilization
  • EIT (Electromagnetically Induced Transparency) experiments
  • Optical sideband generation for spectroscopy
  • Laser linewidth measurement (self-heterodyne)
  • Atom interferometry and atomic clock applications
  • Squeezed-state quantum optics setups

Product Family

The EOPM series broadband phase modulators are designed for general-purpose laser phase modulation up to 20 MHz. Multiple wavelength bands cover visible to near-infrared lasers. All units are AR-coated and fiber-pigtailed options available on request.
