Overview
The LBTEK Liquid Crystal Variable Retarder (LCVR) is based on nematic liquid crystal and ITO glass materials, constructed with an anti-parallel liquid crystal cell, housed in a mechanical casing with attached wiring.
By applying an external AC voltage (DC voltage not allowed), the uncompensated liquid crystal cell achieves flexible tunability with a retardation range of approximately several tens of nanometers to λ/2, while the compensated liquid crystal cell offers a retardation range from 0 to λ/2.

Applications
- When used as a polarization modulator, the polarization direction of the incident linearly polarized light should be at 45° to the fast axis
- When used as a pure phase retarder, the polarization direction of the incident linearly polarized light should align with the fast axis at 0°
