NEPAL is a turnkey high-harmonic-generation (HHG) setup that produces XUV / soft X-ray pulses by focusing a (short) femtosecond laser into a gas medium.

The system delivers coherent ultrabroadband XUV light suitable for ultrafast spectroscopy, photoemission experiments, and time-resolved XUV-pump / XUV-probe measurements. NEPAL covers from the XUV (10-100 eV) into the soft X-ray range depending on driver-laser configuration and gas selection.

Key Product Features

  • Coherent ultrabroadband XUV / soft X-ray light source
  • HHG-based — phase-matched gas target
  • Compatible with kHz to MHz repetition-rate driver lasers
  • Customizable for Ti:Sa, Yb-based, or OPCPA driver systems
  • Energy range: XUV (~10-100 eV) to soft X-ray (extending to water-window with appropriate driver)
  • Includes gas-jet target, focusing optics, and XUV beam transport
  • Integrates with UFI accessories: EVEREST (spectrograph), AURORA (phase retarder), K2 (delay unit)

Applications

  • Attosecond pulse generation
  • HHG spectroscopy
  • Time-resolved photoemission (tr-PES)
  • XUV transient absorption
  • Element-specific magnetism / dichroism

Developed at the Max-Planck-Institute of Quantum Optics. UFI is a spin-off from LMU Munich and the Max Planck Society.
